Château de Chenonceau

One of the prettiest castles in Europe, Chenonceau sits in the Loire Valley along the river Cher. You’ll instantly recognize it for its beautiful arched bridge. The wonderful setting, formal gardens, and lovely architecture makes this chateau a highly enjoyable visit. Enjoy the fascinating history of the chateau, nicknamed Le Château des Dames for the powerful women who shaped it. From its origins in 1515 through the French Revolution to both world wars, the castle has undergone multiple renovations and expansions. Inside you’ll find work by Correggio, Rubens, Van Dyck and more. For additional history, grab the 45 minute audioguide, and if you’re hungry you can stop by the French restaurant L’Orangerie or the salon de thé. There’s also wine tasting onsite t the Cave des Dômes.

It’s an easy train ride from Tours to the town of Chenonceaux (a 5 minute walk away).
