Vinicunca (Rainbow Mountain)

Despite the over-tourism, Rainbow Mountain is spectacularly beautiful, and a great high-altitude hike. Make sure to see the Red Valley as well.

Mount Storm King

This hike in Olympic National Park is one of our favorites in the state of Washington. It's a tough slog, but much of the uphill is shaded, and you'll be rewarded with incredible views of Crescent Lake, the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and Canada in the distance. There's a boulder at the summit that's highly Instagrammable and frequently used for photos.

Mount Etna Crater Hike

Spend a day hiking the slopes of Mount Etna. You'll ascend via some combination of cable car, jeeps, and hiking. Etna is an active volcano, and its conditions will affect how high you can go, but if you're lucky, you'll be able to ascend to the summit. If not, your guide will show you some of the craters and volcanic activity.

Bich Dong Pagoda

A pagoda complex built in 1428, Bich Dong is a picturesque set of three temples built on the side of a beautiful mountain overlooking rolling fields and rice paddies. Be sure to hike to all three pagodas, and then ascend past the last one of a spectacular view of the surrounding countryside.

Krafla Volcano

Krafla volcano is a mountain in north Iceland which has been intermittently errupting for the past 3,000 years. The Viti crater is filled with a beautiful, clear lake. You can drive there to check out the lake, and there's a hiking trail around the crater if you want even more scenic views.
