These are some of our favorite hikes around the world. While we understand there are a lot more, most of these hikes are or will be featured in our itineraries and you really can't go wrong with any of them. If you're an avid hiker these are all day hikes with some incredible scenery.
Hawaiʻi | Hawaii | United States
This unique national park protects the area around Kīlauea and Mauna Loa, two of the most active volcanoes in the world, and extends from sea level to 13,681 feet of elevation.
Maine | United States
This park offers numerous hiking trails and a campground, but the main attraction is Mount Battie. You can hike or drive to the summit, which offers an incredible panoramic view of Penobscot Bay.
Germany
Set in the Moselle valley, Burg Eltz is one of Germany's loveliest medieval castles. This castle has a 900 year history (and managed to avoid destruction through that time) and is still owned by the original family. After admiring the turrets and towers, you'll enjoy a 40 minute tour of the inside.
United States | Washington, D.C.
Just about an hour and a half from Washington, D.C., Shenandoah National Park is a great way to escape the bustle of the city for some natural beauty.

Part of Yosemite National Park, but about 55 miles away from Yosemite Valley at an elevation of 8600 feet, this is the a breathtakingly beautiful subalpine meadow set in the Sierra Nevadas. It offers beautiful fields, wildflowers, lakes, mountains, and cooler temperatures than the valley as well as an array of hikes to make anyone of any level happy.

This is the kind of gondola you ride up a mountain on. Grab it at Heavenly Ski resort and soar up the slopes. You'll get panoramic views of Lake Tahoe at the top.

Truly one of the most beautiful places on earth, Yosemite is more than just the Valley (there are 1200 of square miles in this park) but the Valley cannot be missed. Warning: in the summer the valley gets uncomfortably crowded.

This great loop hike starts about 40 minutes south of South Lake Tahoe (near Kirkwood). It starts at around 8100 feet and climbs to about 9500 (1272 foot elevation gain, about 5 miles).
