You really shouldn’t visit San Francisco without a stop at The Buena Vista Cafe, home of the original Irish coffee. The story goes that in 1952, Jack Koeppler, the then owner of the Buena Vista, challenged international travel writer Stanton Delaplane to help him recreate the famous “Irish Coffee” served at the Shannon Airport in Ireland. After a lot of trial and error they came up with the recipe served today.
