Kauai is the most laid-back of the main islands, and this place really drops you into that vibe. There are 61 restored plantation cottages (where the sugar workers lived). Each cottage has a kitchen and private Lanai. It’s right on its own black sand beach, has a oceanfront pool.
It’s located basically at the entrance to Waimea canyon. The closest town is Waimea – which is not at all touristy – basically a local / cow town.
We love it but it’s not for everybody.
