London Lodging

London is an expensive city for lodging and rooms tend to be small. We have organized by neighborhoods and have made a few suggestions to consider. Given the great transport system, it is easy to get around. Our suggestions here are not exhaustive but are generally not outrageously expensive and are generally well reviewed.

Note: As you may well be in London for a week you may want to consider an Apartment rental as it can save you some money and may be more comfortable. If you decide to do this Booking.com often has a list of apartments (with all important reviews and map). VRBO and AirBnB obviously is an option but be VERY careful to read ll reviews, check the extra costs (such as cleaning), and carefully map the location (see our choosing lodging article). SuperCityUk and One Fine Stay are London sites with apartments for rent (we have not used them)

Westminster: Centrally located, this neighborhood is in the center of the action.

Southwark: We really enjoyed staying in this neighborhood on the south bank of the Thames near the Borough market, and the lodging seems to be a bit more affordable. Due to excellent transport, it is still convenient to everywhere in London

Marleybone: Another centrally located but largely residential neighborhood with a village feel

King’s Cross: Means you’ll be centrally located for trips outside of town. Plus, the area around King’s Cross has had quite a recent renovation with excellent shops and eateries.

Kensington: A lovely neighborhood on the west end of London. A bit further out from the center but charming (and remember, by Tube nothing is too far).

Nottingham: Also an extremely charming neighborhood and slightly further out but full of great restaurants and the famous Portobello Market
