The reason to visit here is the Leatherback Turtles. The lodge is located north of Limon and south of Tortuguero on the Carribean Coast. You will be on the canals which are lowland waterways full of wildlife. From March to June the nearby beach is home to leatherback turtle nesting and the lodge can arrange tours.
Lodging is in bungalows with a private bath. You will drive to the dock and have to arrange boat transportation through the lodge to get to the lodging.
This is a much less developed area than Tortuguero
Turtle Tour
Tours leave every night during nesting season at 7:45pm from the Lirio Lodge pier. You’ll have a guided walk along the beach focused on protection and conservation of the endangered turtles. Hopefully you’ll get to see them (they are often 6-8 feet long) coming up on the beach to lay their eggs. These turtles are basically swimming dinosaurs – little changed for something like 100 million years.
Canals Night Tour
One night you can opt for a canal night tour where you will see the nocturnal animals of the canal.
