This is the quintessential hotel in Casco Viejo. If you pour over travel sites and blogs like I do, and you can afford the splurge, the American Trade Hotel is the place to stay. Located right off of Plaza Herrera, it’s iconic colonial design from 1917 and balconies overflowing with colorful flowers welcomes you immediately. Walking inside feels like “old Panama” and only adds to the experience of being in Casco Viejo. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. The outdoor pool is lovely both day and night with a great view of Ancon hill. The rooms were comfortable and large with a private balcony. Breakfast (included) was very good. The location could not be better for exploring the old part of the city. There is a really fun jazz club connected to the hotel, and the hotel comped us tickets for a Friday night performance.
