Eat & Drink

Hen of the Wood – Burlington

Fantastic food with a show (open kitchen). Great service as well. Be sure and book far in advance – it’s worth it. They also have excellent cocktails which use only seasonal ingredients (just like their food).

von Trapp Brewery & Bierhall

The Von Trapp family (made famous in the Sound of Music) settled near Stowe, Vermont after fleeing Austria. They built a lovely lodge on the top of a hill surrounded by beautiful mountains, forests, and fall color. Take a look at the lodge then drive down the hill short distance to the brewery and beer […]

See

Cold Hollow Cider Mill

These may be the best donuts we’ve ever had. Not listed under restaurants because it’s more than that – gift store, apple processing plant, tourist stop. Found on the road to Stowe.

Shelburne Museum

This is a pretty amazing museum a few minutes south of Burlington. Electra Webb founded the museum in 1947 – initially to persevere er family’s collection of horse drawn carriages but ended up with a huge collection of new England historic buildings, folk art, and a whole lot of other stuff – set on 45 […]

Ben & Jerry’s Factory

On the road into Stowe be sure and stop at the Ben and Jerry’s mothership for an ice cream (and tour, if open). You can stop by the quirky flavor graveyard on your way down from the parking lot to see all of the retired flavors.

Morse Farm Maple Sugarworks

Near Montpelier, this is a fun visit to a working maple sugar farm where you can buy and try everything maple syrup and find out how maple syrup is produced from a short film that describes the process of collection and processing.
