An up-and-coming destination in east central Europe, Slovakia is a fun stop with interesting history and good food.
You probably don’t need to spend a lot of time in Slovakia. But if you’re curious, it’s an easy day trip from Vienna, or a fun stop on your journey from Vienna to Budapest.
Eat & Drink
Bratislavský Meštiansky Pivovar
This brewery dates from 1752 and inherits a proud tradition of making beer in Bratislava. The beers are solid, if not the most interesting, but the vibe is fun and the food is good, too.
Primi River Lounge
Located in the hip Eurovea mall along the Danube river, this restaurant offers views of the water while you dine on the extensive menu, including pastas, pizzas, salads, sandwiches, meat and fish.
Wine Not
Located on Bratislava’s main square, this relaxed wine bar offers a good selection of local wines.
See
Bratislava Castle
Set on a hill overlooking the city, Bratislava Castle is impressive from the outside. The exhibits inside are forgettable, but it’s worth walking around the grounds and soaking in the best view in town.
