Weltmuseum Wien

There are four things to see in this somewhat quirky museum and it’s a lot less crowded than other nearby attractions. First the Weltmuseum. Emperor Franz Joseph I took a gap year after unexpectedly ascending to the throne and in his 10 months of travel collected stuff from all over the world – Mayan headdresses to Malaysian art. Also the first world’s fair in a non English speaking country was held in Vienna and lots of the stuff ended up here. And there was an ethnography collection that also ended up here. So take a tour of world cultures. Upstairs there’s a collection of historical musical instruments and the Hapsburg armor collection (which is huge).
