Valley of the Temples

The Greek settlement of Agrigento once boasted a series of impressive temples along its southern wall. Today only four remain, and they exist in varying states of ruin. Unlike ancient Greece’s best-known marble temples, these were constructed from Sicilian sandstone. The remarkably massive temple of Zeus is barely recognizable, but its footprint still gives you an idea of how truly grand this structure must once have been. The temples of Juno and Hercules are worth seeing, but the real attraction is Concordia, the second most complete ancient Greek temple anywhere, and the most complete outside of Greece. We highly recommend hiring a guide to show you the sites and explain the history.
