There are several museums in Tromsø, but none are blockbuster. However they add to the interest of Tromsø and are fun to explore when not seeking out whales or northern lights. Several are right downtown making them very convenient to visit/
Arctic University Museum
This museum provides information on northern lights and Sami culture. It’s a 30 minute walk or 10 minute bus ride from right downtown.

This is the world’s most northern botanical garden. Operated by Tromsø University Museum, the plant species are all from the Arctic and alpine regions. If you are here in the winter for northern lights there will not be much to see however.
