There is perhaps more history packed in this 18 acre site than anywhere else on earth. Built by the Norman William the Conqueror in 1077, the Tower has been a royal residence, site of executions (remember Anne Boleyn?) and imprisonments (Elizabeth I before she was queen), child murders (Edward V), and the home of the Crown Jewels. This is a can’t-miss site.
We recommend starting early (before the crowds) at 9 am sharp and getting a ticket in advance. See the crown jewels first, then join a beefeater tour ( (offered every half hour), and finish with the White Tower museum. Allow at least 2 hours (and probably more).
There is a decent cafe on site if you get hungry or thirsty after or during your visit.
