Bring your most comfortable shoes as you get ready to enjoy this vast array of art and antiquities in one of the largest museums of the world (17 acres large). The Met has more than 2 million objects in their permanent collection including an intact ancient Egyptian temple. You’ll want to allow several hours to see the museum’s highlights, but it’s easy to spend a full day. Make sure you grab a map when you arrive. We recommend you start on the first floor with the ancient Egyptian collection which is most likely the best Egyptian art you will ever see (including the massive Temple of Dendur). Next head to the 2nd floor to the European Paintings galleries. WE also think you shouldn’t miss the fine collection of medieval armor and weaponry before you leave. Select other galleries as your interests lie: Islamic art and artifacts, American Wing Asian art, modern and contemporary art, etc. From April to October a lovely roof garden with a rotating sculpture installation is open to see as well as great views of Central park. While you can lead yourself through the galleries, the Met also offers free guided tours of the museum’s highlights. Your ticket to the museum is good for 3 consecutive days and includes admission to the Met Breuer and Cloisters.
