This building still functions as a royal palace, the oldest in Europe that’s still in use. It dates originally to the 10th century but most of what you’ll visit was a 14th century remodel by Muslim workmen working for christian king Pedro I. It’s a large complex decorated with a mix of Islamic and Christian elements – a style called Mudejar – common in southern Spain (in contrast to the Alhambra in Granada which was a purely Moorish palace).
