Perched at the end of a breakwater about seven eighths of a mile long, Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse is a picturesque lighthouse in Downeast Maine. To reach the lighthouse, you must walk the length of the breakwater, which can be treacherous during high tide and large swells. The breakwater is composed of large granite blocks with gaps between them, so it can be a rough and unstable walk. When we did the walk, we couldn’t reach the lighthouse because toward the end of the breakwater waves were washing over the granite. Be prepared to get your feet wet, but you can still get good photos of the lighthouse even if you don’t make it all the way there!
