This beach was the center of the American D Day assault and was the site of the bloodiest D Day fighting. The German positions on the cliffs above fired down on the Americans who had to run across the exposed beach and huddle against the cliffs awaiting reinforcements. It’s a wonder anyone survived let alone manage to win the battle.
There is a small skippable museum here – the attraction is walking on the beach and appreciating the immensity of the task.
