Alexandria’s historic district offers cobbled streets, charming townhouses, beautiful waterfront, delicious restaurants, and fun bars. There are also a number of historical sites to visit. If you’re a history buff, be sure to start your visit at the Alexandria Visitor Center, where you can purchase a “Key to the City” for $15, which gains you entry to nine historic sites (as well as a discount on a visit to Mount Vernon).
Some of our favorite historic attractions include the Carlyle House, Gadsby’s Tavern, and the Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary.
