Dead Horse Point State Park

Incredible view of canyons and Colorado River, but no real hiking. Possibly great opportunities for mountain bikers and/or off-roaders. It’s worth it to visit for the view alone, but unless you’re planning on doing a biking or off-roading trip, do not plan to spend more than half a day here.

The park gets its unusual name from the point, which narrows to a neck only about 20 feet across, and then widens into a flat plateau perched 2,000 feet above the river. Stories from the late 1800s suggest that cowboys used the point as a natural corral. They would drive wild mustangs onto the point and fence it off, then pick the ones they wanted and the leave the rest to die on the barren plateau.
