Churchill War Rooms

During World War II, much of the war effort was conducted from bunkers beneath Whitehall due to the frequent bombings. Following the surrender of the Japanese Forces, the doors to the Cabinet War Rooms were locked on August 16, 1945 and remained secret and forgotten until 1984 when the main war rooms were opened to the public. Today you can tour the rooms as an essentially undisturbed time capsule from 1945 – including original maps on the walls, cots where the staff slept, and an excellent Churchill museum. Consider advance tickets.
