Arles Amphitheater

This is one of the best preserved Roman amphitheaters anywhere. Its arches date back to the first century BC and in its heyday saw its fill of chariot races and battles. It’s located right in the center of Arles an is still used regularly – both for the typical deathly Spanish type of bullfight, the Corridas and the local (non lethal) Course Camarguaise bullfights where men pull ribbons off the bull’s horns. Clearly if you’re going to watch a bullfight we think you should opt for the Course Camarguaise.
