Very impressive cathedral in old town Estonia with ornate decorations and beautiful stained glass windows. Completed in 1900 when Estonia was part of the Russian empire, the cathedral is built in the Russian Revival style. The church towers contain 11 bells, including the largest in Tallinn, which weighs 16 tons. Seen as a symbol of Russian oppression, the Estonian government scheduled Alexander Nevsky Cathedral for demolition in 1924, but a lack of funds prevented the government from following through.
