NYC Holiday Markets

NYC’s Holiday Markets are charming and are nearly as enjoyable as those in Europe. If you’re in the US, here’s your chance to enjoy the holiday spirit with some Old World charm. Held in parks, city circles, and springing up at food markets around NYC, you can’t help but run into them. And we recommend you not only stumble upon one, you should seek them out. You’ll find unique artisan craft-ware, food, ornaments, and drinks (though sadly much pricier than a glass of gluwein in Germany). These winter bazaars pop up around November and stay through Christmas. There are many different art fares and bazaars, some appearing for only a weekend, so while you’re there do a quick google search to see what new ones are around during your stay.

Some of our favorites:

Winter Village at Bryant Park

This market is our absolute favorite. Set in Bryant Park, European style stalls line both sides of the side walk in a circle, in the middle of which sits a free ice skating rink (free to skate, but you’ll have to rent shoes). There’s plenty of food and drink here and 170 vendors from whom to buy all of your gifts.

Union Square Holiday Market

Located in Greenwich Village, this market has over 150 vendors selling plenty of different types of handicrafts. Again, food and drink abound in this park.

Columbus Circle Holiday Market

Located right on Central Park, this bazaar has over 100 booths. Again, food and drink abound, and it offers a sit – down food/drink area where you can browse for your favorite fare and meet with your friends back at a table.

Grand Central Holiday Fare

Vanderbilt Hall turns into a holiday craft bazaar with 40 booths. This one is warmer, as it’s located inside. It prides itself as being “one of the longest-running indoor holiday fairs in New York City”.

Others to consider: Astoria Market, Brooklyn Flea and Smorgasburg Winter Market, Holiday Handmade Cavalcade, Chelsea Market.
