Spend a day hiking the slopes of Mount Etna. You’ll ascend via some combination of cable car, jeeps, and hiking. Etna is an active volcano, and its conditions will affect how high you can go, but if you’re lucky, you’ll be able to ascend to the summit. If not, your guide will show you some of the craters and volcanic activity. We weren’t allowed to reach the summit, but we were lucky enough to an active lava flow with red-hot lava still visible through some of the rocks. This not an excursion for those who don’t like hiking or aren’t interested in volcanoes; the hike can be dusty and tedious, and the terrain is rough.
There are a couple of options for guides; Gruppo Guide Etna Nord is a good option, as is Gruppo Guide Alpine Etna Sud.
