In 1979 a US biologist invented the biplane to study the rainforest canopy in Sarpiqui Costa Rica. 18 years later in Monteverde the first commercial biplane was started. Since then it has become a global phenomenon but regardless of the history do a zip line when you are in Monteverde. It is amazing and fun to fly like a bird through the first canopy. There are now 6 separate operators of canopy tours in Monteverde. Original Canopy Tours or Selvatura is probably your best choice – Extremo and Adventure are more focused on adrenaline than the canopy / could forest. Original starts with a climb through a strangler fig – which is pretty cool, Selvatura is longer and has more cables. We did Selvatura so that’s what we’ve listed for location but get there and take your pick.
