Svalbard Wildlife Expeditions runs this absolutely unmissable excursion in the summer months (June – September). They’ll outfit you with a dry suit, then you’ll jump into a kayak to cross the Isfjorden to the base of Hiortfjellet mountain. At 3,045 feet, Hiortfjellet towers above Longyearbyen. You’ll beach the kayaks and then begin the journey up the mountain. Along the way you might see reindeer, arctic fox, or even a polar bear. At the top of the mountain, you’ll eat lunch and enjoy the outstanding views in every direction. On the way down, you’ll stop by one of the old mines.
