Dolphin Bay, aka Laguna Bocatorito, is located near Isla San Cristobal where you can watch dolphins in their natural habitat. In Bocas del Toro there is a resident population of bottlenose dolphins, many of which live there year round. The bay is especially popular among nursing mothers and their calves. The bay is filled with jelly fish which keep the dolphins around, so given the opportunity to snorkel on your excursion, you may want to think twice. The best time of year to see dolphins is June and July, when the seas are calmer.
Of note, this area has recently become over touristed. The motor boats disturb the sound waves and make it uncomfortable for dolphins to stay in the region. Some also suffer cuts on their fins from the motor boats. However, booking a sailboat is a much nicer way to enjoy these animals.
