This is probably the most famous hike in the Lake District and takes you along a high ridge overlooking Derentwater on one side and the Newlands Valley on the other. It’s a pretty dramatic ridge with some (not difficult) scrambling – not difficult but not a graded path walk either
Grab the counterclockwise boat from Keswick and get off at the second stop (Hawes End). There’s no signs but you won’t be alone and the path up the ridge is fairly obvious. After the Catbell’s summit you can head down some steps at the base of the saddle past the summit down to High Brandwlhoq pier where you can grab the boat back to Keswick.
Allow about 3 hours (due to elevation gain) – only about 3.5 miles
