Casco Viejo (aka Casco Antiguo) is the remains of the colonial center of Panama City. Within recent years it has undergone a revitalization, with hotels and restaurants re-vamping the beautiful architecture. We always enjoy walking tours and learning more about a city! You’ll pass by beautiful cathedrals, European-style market squares, winding cobbled streets, and political offices. Make sure to make your way into Iglesia de San José with it’s gold Baroque alter. We used Panama Trails to take us around at sunset (a cooler time of the day) and it was informative and helpful to get our bearings in the city. There are many tour companies that offer a walking tour, or you can follow Frommer’s self-guided walking tour instead.
Tour companies offering tours:
- Panama Trails (this is the one we used and it was great)
- Freetour.com
- Panama City Free Tour
