Berlin has 80+ Christmas markets. We’ll share some of the best here but hopefully along the way you’ll stumble on others.
Christmas Market at Gendarmenmarkt
If you only go to 1 market in Berlin, it should be this one. This particular market has 600,000 annual visitors and is probably the most picturesque of its markets. It’s settled among the French Cathedral (Franzosischer Dom), Konzerthaus, and Dutscher Dom. This square is the perfect place to visit all of Berlin’s major sights. Among the white tents enjoy fantastic craftwork as well as regional delicacies. There is a 1 euro admission for adults which goes to social and cultural projects.
Christmas market at Charlottenburg Palace
Set in the square near the 17th century Charlottenburg Palace, this market has all of the traditional fare. It’s particularly scenic because of the palace in the background. It’s just as amazing as the biggest market, Gendarmenmarkt (mentioned above) but has less of a crowd. Enjoy the live choir that will serenade you as you shop and don’t miss strolling through the palace’s gardens (yes, even in winter).
Winterwelt am Potsdamer Platz
This Christmas Market, set in the famous Potsdamer Platz has a tobaggan run and ice rink (need we really say more).
Christmas market at Kollwitzplatz
Located in the Old East hip district of Prenzlauer Berg, it’s a popular market. They sell organic, Fairtrade, and local food exclusively.
Lucia Christmas Market
Located in the hip neighborhood of Prenzlauerberg, this market not surprisingly focuses on Scandinavian goods.
